A man who was stabbed to death during a fight in a street in South Yorkshire has been named by police.

Emergency services were called to Burton Road in Monk Bretton, near Barnsley, on Sunday following reports of an altercation involving a group of men.

South Yorkshire Police said Alan Sutton, 41, died after suffering suspected stab wounds to his chest during the incident.

Five people have so far been arrested in connection with his death, the force said.

A 19-year-old woman and two men, aged 21 and 32, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, while a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault on Monday.

Earlier officers arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon and assault.

Police said the 21-year-old man remained in police custody while the other four people had been bailed pending further enquiries.

Det Ch Insp Ben Wood said the investigation into Mr Sutton's death was "continuing at pace".

“We made several arrests within hours of the incident and are keen to hear from anyone with any information that could help our investigation into this incident," he said.

“Our thoughts are with Alan’s family at this difficult time.”
