Hertfordshire Police seized a vehicle after the incident on the A414 at Hatfield

A man has been arrested after reports of horse and trap racing.

Police said officers were called to the A414 in Hatfield at 11:15 BST.

The man was accused of riding a trap and was arrested at the scene on suspicion of intentionally causing a public nuisance.

Hertfordshire Police said it seized a vehicle under Section 60 of the Police Reform Act 2002.

It appealed for anyone who witnessed the alleged racing or who was caught in traffic as a result to contact the force.

Pony and trap racing, in which horses pull a cart and driver behind them, is not illegal. But people can be prosecuted for causing disruption on the roads and putting other road users at risk.
