An 18-year-old woman remains in hospital with serious injuries after she was hurt in an apparent hit-and-run incident as she crossed a road.

Hertfordshire Police said the teenager was walking on Gammons Lane, at the junction with Ashby Road, Watford, at about 19:00 GMT on Monday.

The force said the vehicle, thought to be a white Transit-type van with ladders on the roof, "failed to stop".

Investigating officer Sgt Matt O’Neill said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision and who has not yet spoken to police, or anyone who has any information which could help the investigation."
