Passenger dies after pick-up crashes into river

The collision took place in the Embankment area of Wellingborough late on Friday

A passenger has died after a pick-up truck crashed into a river.

The emergency services were called when for reasons unknown a silver Toyota Hilux left the road and entered the River Nene from the Embankment area of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, at about 23:10 GMT on Friday.

Fire crews conducted a water rescue but the passenger died later in hospital.

The driver of the car sustained minor injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
