An inquest into the death in Jamaica of a woman from West Yorkshire has been suspended pending the outcome of criminal investigations on the Caribbean island.

Lisa Jo-Ann Ball, from Keighley, died at Falmouth General Hospital in the north of the island, east of Montego Bay, on 29 May, the week after her 53rd birthday.

Opening and suspending the inquest at Bradford Coroner's Court on Tuesday, assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst said Ms Ball's death was as a result of a road traffic collision.

Ms Brocklehurst said due to "criminal proceedings in Jamaica", the inquest would be suspended until 17 October.

"These proceedings are moving towards a trial hearing," Ms Brocklehurst told the court.

"We are in contact with the police service in Jamaica and we are awaiting further details from them."
