MP 'extremely concerned' over cinema closure plans

An MP said she was "extremely concerned" after a cinema chain said it was closing a town's only movie house.

Odeon confirmed it was shutting its cinema on Pegasus Court in Kettering early next year.

The firm said the closure would take place in January and added its "priority" was to support its Kettering employees.

Rosie Wrighting, the Labour MP for Kettering, said the news was a "disappointing blow" for the Northamptonshire town.

Posting on X, she said:, external "Watching films and having access to the arts is a key part of our culture and I want to see the industry thrive.

"I will be seeking urgent clarification on how the closure will affect staff and will also be asking questions about the future of the building."

The cinema opened on the leisure park, close to the A14, in the 1990s.

The Northamptonshire Telegraph, external reported a number of restaurants on the site were due to be demolished.
