Church bids to move to building on business park

A church wants to use a building on a business park as its new place of worship.
Fountain of Life has a congregation of about 120 people and currently holds its services at a building in Howards Gate, in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.
It is part of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, a Pentecostal denomination with headquarters in Nigeria and almost 10 million members globally.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, it has asked Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council for permission to use Arundel House on Garnell Business Park as its new church.
In its planning application, external, Fountain of Life said it hoped to use the building’s ground floor, which is currently a warehouse, as a food bank and the first floor as a contact centre.
Structural alterations to the building are not planned, and the church said the current landlord supported the application.
Arundel House is being advertised for rent at £5,805 a month.
Fountain of Life’s application says the plan would be unlikely to lead to traffic problems around Garnell Business Park because on-site car parking is available.
The church runs its own bus service from Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield to take members of the congregation to services on Sundays.
