A World War Two grenade found by a man using a metal detector has been detonated by a bomb squad in Kent.

Police said what was believed to have been a rifle grenade was discovered by a man from Kemsing, near Sevenoaks, in a field near his home.

The army attended the scene and moved the grenade to land in the village of Otford, where it was detonated in a controlled explosion, police said.

The man reported his find to police at 14:00 GMT on Sunday and was detonated at about 09:00 on Monday.
