Classic cars have been on display on the streets of Durham as part of a bank holiday event.

The show brought together about 150 vehicles dating from post war to the current day.

Many are rare examples of their kind, including a 1950s Ford Popular converted to a hot rod.

Hundreds of people were able to view them, and chat with their owners, in Palace Green, the Market Place, Millennium Place, Framwellgate Bridge and Elvet Bridge.

Malcolm Vance, who organises the event, together with Durham Markets Company, said: "There's probably about 40 or 50 different makes here, sometimes only one of each.

"We have have a 1973 Citroen SM with a Maserati 2.7 V6 engine, one of only 24 left with an MOT in the UK.

"This model was the fastest front wheel drive car in the world, with a top speed of 177mph."

With people able to chat to the owners of the vintage vehicles it was a "lovely day out for everyone", he added.
