Bus passengers offered free weekend rides
- Published
Passengers are being offered free travel throughout August on a bus service in Nottinghamshire.
Free journeys on the Sherwood Arrow, which runs between Nottingham City Centre, Worksop and Retford, will be available on weekends and the bank holiday on 26 August, the county council said.
The route includes popular spots in Nottinghamshire, such as Sherwood Forest, Rufford Abbey Country Park and Bassetlaw Museum.
This coincides with Nottinghamshire Day celebrations at Sherwood Forest on Sunday 25 August, as well as the Robin Hood Festival, which runs throughout the month.
Wheelgate Park, White Post Farm, Center Parcs and Clumber Park also feature along the route.
Family-friendly
The offer is being funded by Nottinghamshire County Council as part of its Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).
Mike Introna, Conservative County Councillor for Retford East said: "The initiative offers local residents of Retford and Worksop the opportunity to visit some of our local attractions in a cost-effective way and not to have to worry about fuel, transport and parking costs.
"Holiday periods can be a challenge for families finding things, sometimes new things, to do and managing family budgets.
"The local attractions such as Rufford Country Park and certainly Edwinstowe and the Sherwood Visitor Centre, which are part of our history and culture in Nottinghamshire are places that all Notts kids should get the opportunity to visit."
