A woman is in a life-threatening condition after it is believed she was hit by a car, police said.

The injured pedestrian is in hospital after the incident on Dorcan Way in Swindon, Wiltshire, between 04:00 GMT and 06:00 on Saturday. Officers said the car did not remain at the scene.

Officers said it was possible the driver was unaware they had struck someone and are appealing for them to contact investigators "as a matter of urgency".

The road remains closed in both directions from the Morrison's roundabout to the Nythe Road junction. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes while Wiltshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Team attends the scene.

Officers have appealed appealing for any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who may have dashcam footage taken from the area to contact them as soon as possible.
