Police are appealing for information following a series of church burglaries in south Devon.

A stained-glass window was smashed by burglars and several televisions were stolen from 900-year-old St Andrew's Church in Ashburton between 27 August and 28 August.

Between 11 September and 12 September items were stolen in a burglary at St Martin and St Mary Parish Church in Chudleigh.

On the morning of 17 September police were contacted by the treasurer at Christ Church in Paignton who reported that the church had been broken into and items taken.

Officers investigating the Ashburton break-in have arrested a man in his 60s from Paignton on suspicion of burglary.

He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue, said the Devon and Cornwall force.
