Guernsey will see an increase in small cruise ships docking at the harbour this summer season, officials say.

This would be due to the reduction of ferry services coming out of the harbour, which would make berth one free more often for the vessels, they added.

Nearly a dozen small cruise ships were planned to dock in Guernsey starting from 14 May, ports staff said.

Guernsey Ports said it was working with cruise lines to make the island look attractive due to the competitiveness between small expedition ships.

Mark Renouf, Guernsey Ports' cruise operations manager, said: "Hopefully, by the end of this year, the figures will be up from last year and future bookings up as well.

"The cruise ship market is massive and the potential for Guernsey is large.

"We are trying to pick the best we can across all size ships and attract them all in."
