Passengers are being asked for their views on plans to make a bus station more pedestrian friendly and journey times more reliable.

The plans for Penzance Bus Station include changes to pedestrian crossings at the entrance to the station and a new bay for three buses.

Other proposals include introducing 'no waiting at any time' restrictions and bus stop markings along Albert Pier leading to Penzance Bus Station and the Harbour Long Stay Car Park.

Cornwall Council said this would "help reduce the current conflict between buses and private vehicles" accessing the bus station.

'Pinch point'

There are also plans for a change of priorities at Albert Street and Wharf Road Junction which the council said should "reduce delays and improve reliability for buses" leaving the station.

Rebecca Riley, Cornwall Council's Head of Connectivity and Transport Policy, said the current road network in and around the bus station "creates a pinch point which can lead to congestion and delays for people trying to access the bus and rail services".

She said the proposals come after a detailed road safety audit was undertaken.

The scheme is part of Cornwall's Bus Service Improvement Plan, developed by Cornwall Council with bus operators and Network Rail.

It aims to tackle traffic delays and improve reliability and accessibility to transport hubs.

The consultation, external is being led by Cormac Solutions Ltd, in partnership with Cornwall Council and Penzance Town Council, and feedback will be used to help draw up the final designs.

Cormac project manager Niall Parkinson said the plans also "align with" regeneration projects in the town and should make travel "safer, smoother and more efficient" for residents and visitors.

The consultation ends on 7 March.
