Sarah Maltby MHK has been confirmed as the new chairman of the Isle of Man Arts Council as part of her duties overseeing arts and culture.
Ms Maltby joined the Department of Education, Sport and Culture (Desc) two weeks ago following a mini-reshuffle of political members.
She takes over from fellow Douglas South MHK Claire Christian, who resigned in the wake of the sacking of Julie Edge as minister.
Daphne Caine was appointed to take over that position in February, sparking a series of changes.
It was previously announced Ms Maltby would also have responsibility for tourism and motorsport within the Department for Enterprise.
Commenting on her new remit, which includes responsibility for the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre complex, she said: “I am really looking forward to working within the Desc political team and helping to shape policies and strategies to make a difference.
“As I have had over 14 years’ experience within education and most recently as a senior education support officer supporting children with complex needs, I have a good insight into education and I am delighted to be returning to my roots.”
Ms Caine said she was “confident” Ms Maltby’s “previous experience and passion will bring a fresh perspective” to the department.
