A former gas works site will not be turned into a skate park, a minister has confirmed.

Constable Andy Jehan, Jersey's Infrastructure Minister, told the Environment, Housing and Infrastructure Scrutiny Panel a decision on the future of a temporary skate park in St Helier would be made soon.

But he said it would not be located at Gas Place - which had previously been mentioned as a possible location for the park. He said the site had been earmarked for a new school.

Mr Jehan said more than 50 potential sites for the skate park had been looked at and he had identified somewhere for an "interim solution" for the park.

When the panel asked what sites had been considered, the minister said: "I can tell you the site I'm looking at is not Gas Place.

"We do not own that site and I think it is unrealistic personally to even think about that site.

"I think we have to have a site that we can get access to quickly, that's in our ownership and that's the kind of site we've identified."

'Knock it down'

During the same meeting, Mr Jehan also spoke about possible plans for redeveloping the former St Saviour's Hospital site.

He told the panel his personal choice would be to "knock it down" and delist some of its buildings.

Mr Jehan said he believed it would help with a development at the site.

In November 2023, plans were unveiled by the States for homes to be built at the site.

A public consultation which was launched at the same time closed in January.
