About 400 pigs have died following a barn fire in East Yorkshire.

The fire at a farm in Riston Road, Catwick, broke out shortly after 13:00 BST on Sunday, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service reported.

The pigs within the barn were all "fatally injured" and the building itself "completely destroyed", a spokesperson for the service said.

It was "very likely" that an electrical fault had led to "accidental ignition".

Five fire engines were involved in a five-hour operation. Firefighters prevented the blaze spreading to a neighbouring barn, which suffered smoke damage.

Breathing apparatus, two main lines, a hose reel, a thermal imaging camera and a drone were used.
