A new medical centre intended to catch life-threatening diseases early will be built in Hereford.

Wye Valley NHS Trust was given planning permission for the new community diagnostic centre (CDC) off the A49 Holmer Road to the north of the city.

The trust's application said it would be "critical to easing pressure on the diagnostics department of Herefordshire's County Hospital".

There were no objections to the proposal from official groups who were consulted.

The new two-storey building will be clad in black metal with timber details and will house specialist scanning and diagnostic equipment.

The plans also include consulting rooms, a reception and waiting area and staff facilities.

It will go on a one hectare (2.5 acres) plot between a B&Q and Glosford Secure Storage.

Some people raised concerns over road safety along the A49 but National Highways and Herefordshire Council's own traffic officer did not object.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
