The A18 Mountain Road has opened with a one-way system for the during Isle of Man TT.

Final preparations on the main carriageway from Ramsey to Onchan saw the road closed for several hours earlier.

The one-way in the direction of the course from Barrule Park in Ramsey to the Creg ny Baa coincides with a total ban on cycling on the course during the festival.

A series of speed restrictions on several of the island's roads both on and away from the course have also been introduced in conjunction with that system until 11 June.

During the Mountain Road closure, a fleet of traffic cone trucks leased from motorway teams in England was used to lay out the one-way system.

Signage reminding motorists of the direction of traffic flow along the route was also put on display.

As part of the road safety measures in place for the fortnight, temporary speed limits of 40mph (64km/h) and 50mph (80km/h) have been introduced on sections of the A1 Douglas to Ballacraine and A3 Ballacraine to Ramsey roads.

Derestricted sections of the A2 Ramsey to Onchan Coast Road will be subject to maximum speed limits of 50mph (80km/h), with the same limit on both the Sloc and Shoulder Road in the south.

Lower speed limits are also enforced on the Creg ny Baa Back Road and Begoade Road.

To help traffic flow from the north to the east of the island along the coast, parking restrictions on Stanley Mount West in Ramsey have been put in place from 24 May to 10 June.

All of the other restrictions will remain in place until 11 June, when the Mountain Road will close to allow for the one-way system to removed.
