The main route between the Manx capital and the north of the island has reopened with traffic now flowing in both directions along its entire length.

The A18 Mountain Road closed between Ramsey and the Creg ny Baa at 09:00 BST to allow signage and traffic cones marking out the restrictions to be taken away.

As well as the restoration of two-way traffic, the cycling ban has also been lifted.

The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) said temporary signage - highlighting traffic flow's reversion to normal - would be in place for a week.

The one-way system was first enforced on the Mountain Road for the centenary of the Isle of Man TT races in 2007.

The measure was designed to cut the number of head-on collisions on the road, which is popular with visiting bike fans during the festival.

The carriageway will be shut again between 09:30 and 12:30 on 17 June for the temporary two-way reminder signage to be removed.

The department said a programme of works would also be taking place "over the next few days" on various roads across the island to remove TT equipment.

Those works would also see the taking down of temporary speed limit signs, with drivers urged to "moderate your speed when approaching staff working in the road".
