Rapist jailed after sexually assaulting two girls

A rapist who sexually assaulted two girls has been jailed for more than 12 years.
Nottinghamshire Police said Christopher Powis started abusing one of the girls in 2016, when she was in primary school, and told her not to tell anyone.
The 65-year-old later raped a girl under 13 in March 2023.
He called police to ask whether he should hand himself in, after his "vile offending" was discovered by the second victim's mother, the force added.
'Cowardly offending'
Following the rape of the girl in 2023, in which Powis forced himself on her, the defendant was arrested.
Inquiries revealed another victim, who said Powis, of Acle Gardens, Bulwell, Nottingham, sexually assaulted her on a number of occasions.
He later admitted rape of a child under 13, assault of a child under 13 by penetration, and four counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
Powis was sentenced to 12 and a half years behind bars and added to the sex offenders register for life.
He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.
Det Con Emily Bucklow said: "[Powis] only called police because his vile offending had been discovered – seven years after he began abusing one of the victims.
"Powis's abhorrent behaviour continues to impact on the victims and their loved ones.
"They have both been very courageous, and their bravery stands in stark contrast to Powis's cowardly offending."
