A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was stabbed in Surrey.

Surrey Police said it was called to Carlo's Barber Shop, on Garfield Road in Addlestone, just before 15:30 BST on Sunday, following reports a man in his 30s had been assaulted.

He was taken to hospital with a stab wound, where he remains, the force said.

A 22-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon and has been remanded into custody.

Insp David Richardson, of Surrey Police, said a knife was recovered near the scene.

He added: We understand this is a distressing incident for the local community.

"Our officers are working hard to understand the full circumstances of what happened."

Witnesses or anyone with information that could help the police investigation has been urged to come forward.
