Service 385 runs between HMP Lindholme and Doncaster city centre

A bus service connecting Doncaster city centre and a local prison is to be continued, a mayoral authority has said.

Transport officials from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) said it would invest £189,000 in the 385 service.

A new timetable is due to start on 16 November so staff and visitors at HMP Lindholme can continue to ride directly between the city centre and prison without a change at Barnby Dun.

The SYMCA said it would offer the funding to David Goodfellow Travel to keep the service operating.

The route began when prison staff requested a direct service to the city centre, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

A decision report by the SYCMA said: "A new Monday to Saturday daytime service [will be] introduced, operating between Doncaster and Lindholme/Sykehouse.

"The combined frequency would be 60 minutes on common sections between Doncaster and Barnby Dun."

The authority said the timetable had been co-ordinated with First's BSIP 383 service to provide a 30-minute headway along Wheatley Hall Road.

The proposed route would be Wheatley Hall Road, Barnby Dun Road then Doncaster Road between Doncaster and Barnby Dun, it added.
