Six dogs found abandoned on Bodmin Moor

An appeal has been made to find out who owns six dogs discovered on Bodmin Moor.

Cornwall Council is appealing for information after three dogs were found near the village of St Neot and three others near Altarnun on Monday.

The dogs are thought to be labradors and springer spaniels which may have had the same owner, but none had identity tags or up-to-date microchips, the council said.

The dogs had been moved to a kennels where they would be kept for seven days after which, if not claimed, they would be rehomed, the council added.

Council member Martyn Alvey said he was sad to hear about the discovery of the dogs.

“While the team is yet to establish the circumstances of how these dogs came to be on the moor, I’d like to remind people that to abandon a pet in circumstances such as these is an offence under the Animal Welfare Act,” he said.

He reminded dog owners that they were legally required to microchip their pets and keep their details updated on the register and that dogs should wear an identification tag.

The council asked anyone who recognised the dogs or had any information about them to contact its community protection team.
