A man who abducted a child before sexually assaulting her at his house has been convicted.

Mohammed Abdulraziq, 32, from Birmingham, was arrested after being discovered in the house in Winson Green with a five-year-old girl, on 30 March.

The girl was playing in the street when Abdulraziq took her into the house, West Midlands Police said, quickly prompting her mother and a friend to launch a search and spotted her after hearing her cries, before she was rescued.

Abdulraziq was found guilty of false imprisonment with intent to commit a sexual offence, sexual assault and assault, following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

The court was told that the mother's friend spotted the girl through a window and as she tried to climb through it the defendant punched her.

Entry was then forced into the house by members of the public who detained him until officers arrived to arrest him, police said.

Det Sgt Nicky Simms, from the Central Complex Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: "Abdulraziq was a predatory individual who took a young girl off the street and into his house.

"I must praise the courage of the girl and her mother in what has been a very sensitive investigation."
