New charge after attack left man critically ill

A fifth man has been charged in relation to a vehicle attack on a house in Rotherham which left a man "fighting for his life".

Two Audi cars crashed into the gates of a property on Woodland Drive in North Anston at about 10:15 BST on 8 September before a fight broke out, according to South Yorkshire Police.

A 21-year-old man remained in hospital in a critical condition on Monday, the force said.

Meanwhile, the fifth person to be charged in connection with the disturbance, Bradley Stevenson, 30, of Shelley Drive, Rotherham, has appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court accused of assault, violent disorder and dangerous driving.

Mr Stevenson has also been charged with assault in connection with a separate incident in January.

He was remanded into custody until a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on 14 October.

Earlier, Dean Cruickshanks, 30, of Monksbridge Road, Rotherham, was charged with violent disorder, possessing a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place and dangerous driving.

Stephen Heeley, 26, of Leicester Road, Dinnington, and Michael Hall, 44, of Worksop Road, Rotherham, were both charged with violent disorder and possessing a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place.

Liam Hancock, 33, of Caperns Road, Rotherham, was charged with violent disorder and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

All four men have been remanded in custody and will appear at Sheffield Crown Court on 8 October.

Two people, a 30-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting offenders have been bailed pending further inquiries, police said.

Temporary Det Ch Insp Simon Cartwright, the senior investigating officer, said: "I would like to express my thanks to you, our local communities.

"We have been provided with important information which has proved crucial and has helped in our investigation into ascertaining how a young man was left fighting for his life.

"Our thoughts remain with him and his loved ones."
