Emergency services are at the scene of the crash on the A45 by Wellingborough, in Northamptonshire

A dual carriageway has been closed due to a serious crash involving one car.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue said the A45, eastbound, was shut at Wellingborough, between the A509 Wilby Way roundabout and the junction for Turnells Mill Lane near Tesco, at about 14:20 BST.

The service said two people were rescued from the car and left in the care of paramedics after it used special cutting equipment to remove the doors from the vehicle.

The westbound section was closed to allow an air ambulance to land, but has since reopened.

The eastbound section of the road will remain closed while the car was recovered, it added.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene along with police and the ambulance service. Motorists were asked to find an alternative route.
