Swan rescued from busy main road by police

The officers succeeded in capturing the young swan, which was taken to a vet to be checked over

Police officers have come to the rescue of a young swan that was ruffling the feathers of drivers as it wandered along a busy 60mph (96km/h) road.

PCs Walker and Bowers glided along in their police car to Warren Lane in Stanway, on the outskirts of Colchester, on Friday to capture the adventurous animal.

It was taken to a nearby vets for checks before being released in a suitable location.

An Essex Police spokesperson said on Facebook they would "try and avoid the Hot Fuzz references" in their report. The 2007 hit comedy action film includes an infamous attempt by stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to capture an escaped swan.

Once they knew it was unharmed, the swan was released into a more suitable habitat
