Hundreds of people came together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Jersey parkrun.

The free community event helps people of all abilities get active by running 5km (3.1 miles) every Saturday at 09:00 at Les Quennevais.

Some volunteers wore birthday hats and there was cake at the end for runners to enjoy as well.

Event director Michael Chaytor said it was "quite surreal" to see how far Jersey parkrun had grown in a decade.

Michael is smiling and wearing a pink and grey high-visibility vest with the 'parkrun' logo stands in a park near a 'START' sign and a pink event flag. Another volunteer is visible in the background, suggesting the start of an organized running event

Mr Chaytor started volunteering with Jersey parkrun nine years ago before becoming event director.

"It's gone from strength to strength," he said.

"Parkrun is all about the community coming and running, jogging, walking and volunteering together.

"It doesn't have a stigma about having to run a fast time because it is really a community event that is there for health, wellbeing, social interaction."

Emily was one of the runners who came out for Jersey parkrun's anniversary, but she had also completed an ultramarathon run on Friday.

The 14-year-old, who is training to run five ultramarathons in five days for the breast cancer charity ABC Jersey, external, said there was "an amazing community as always" and "amazing vibes".

She is an experienced ultra runner having already completed a 100km (62.1 miles) race and she also ran the Island Walk, coming in first for the under-16s.

Emily said of her latest challenge: "Mentally it will be very difficult, physically it will be very difficult, but it's amazing to see how ABC helps people rebuild their lives."
