People in Wolverhampton are being offered free parking in the run-up to Christmas.

The offer covers all day on Saturdays and Sundays and after 15:00 GMT on weekdays, from 6 to 23 December.

It will apply to the Temple Street, Tempest Street, Peel Street, School Street and St George's Parade council car parks and the local authority's Fold Street facility will also be free on weekdays only after 15:00 until 23 December.

The council said it was "to encourage shoppers and support local businesses".

Cabinet member for city transport Qaiser Azeem said it was "our way of helping everyone make the most of the festive season".

Broad Street car park is also currently free to use from 17:00 to 05:00 every day and this continues until 5 January when a new flat rate of £2 in those hours will be introduced.
