Shoppers visiting towns in Rutland will be gifted free parking for special events in the build-up to Christmas.

County council-run car parks in Oakham and Uppingham will be free for motorists on 21 November to coincide with ongoing Black Friday sales.

Then charges will be lifted for late-night shopping events in Uppingham, from 15:00 GMT on 4 December, and in Oakham, from 15:00 on 15 December.

And for Small Business Saturday on 6 December, shoppers will be able to park for free all day.

Councillor for transport Christine Wise said she hoped the free parking would be a "welcome boost" for the programme of events.

She said: "I hope lots of people will take the opportunity to shop local and make the most of our fantastic independent retailers and small businesses in the run-up to Christmas."
