A severe flood warning for the River Nene, which means there is danger to life, has been issue by the Environment Agency.

The warning is for the stretch between Elton and Wansford in Cambridgeshire, through Yarwell in Northamptonshire.

The Environment Agency said the warning had been issued due to the onset of flooding at Yarwell Mill Country Park creating deep water.

Residents at the country park were advised to evacuate on Wednesday and North Northamptonshire Council was providing accommodation for them.

The Yarwell Mill Country Park Residents Association said emergency services began arriving around 21:00 GMT on Wednesday to help evacuate residents.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue said the country park was home to nearly 300 people who have "all have been advised to evacuate".

It added many of the roads around the site are submerged and it had launched boats at the park for any residents who need rescuing.

Jason Smithers, the leader of North Northamptonshire Council, said the evacuation of the site was "well-rehearsed" as people had to leave their homes earlier this year.

The authority has provided a rest centre at Oundle Library for residents of Yarwell Mill.

The Billing Aquadrome site remains inaccessible due to flooding, the emergency services said.

They added that those displaced from the site should not return until they are advised to do so by the site management company.
