Firefighters help 35 people out of caravan park

Firefighters have helped more than 30 people leave a caravan park in a county hit by flooding.

The incident happened in Yarwell, near Oundle in Northamptonshire.

Two people and a dog were helped to safety from a boat in the county earlier in the day.

The emergency services have advised motorists to only travel if necessary and avoid driving in floodwater.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said 35 people were "assisted to safety from rising floodwaters" at 19:30 BST on Thursday after an evacuation order was given at a caravan site in Yarwell.

Specially-trained rescuers had helped the NFRS earlier in the day at Islip Mill, when two people and a dog were stranded in a boat.

The NFRS said it had dealt with eight weather-related incidents from 08:00 on Thursday to 10:00 on Friday.

An NRFS spokesperson said: "We would strongly encourage people to only travel if necessary and avoid driving into floodwater.

"Never attempt to cross or drive through floodwater if you don’t know how deep the water is – just two feet of water will float a car.

"Never try to swim through fast-flowing water or floodwater; you may get swept away or be injured by an object in the water."

Warden 'verbally abused'

On Friday, West Northamptonshire Council announced a full closure of Kislingbury High Street between the Rothersthorpe and the A4500.

There were reports that the flood warden in Kislingbury had been "verbally abused and threatened" as the closure was put in place.

Residents of mobile homes at Billing Aquadrome on the outskirts of Northampton, who were evacuated to Lings Forum Leisure Centre on Tuesday, have now been placed in alternative temporary accommodation by West Northamptonshire Council.

The group at the leisure centre included 52 people and 22 dogs.

Some flood warnings remain in place across the county.
