'Swerving' HGV driver among 64 drink-drive arrests
- Published
A lorry driver "spotted swerving across the M40" was among 64 people arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in Warwickshire in December.
Also among the detained was an over-the-limit motorist, involved in a crash, who had a bottle of vodka in his car, said Warwickshire Police, adding officers arrested a further eight people during Op Limit following positive drug wipe tests.
People under the influence of drink or drugs "had a significantly higher risk of being involved in a serious collision", the force warned.
The HGV driver, who was three times over the legal limit, was banned from driving for two years and four months in January, police said, while the driver with the vodka received a five-year ban.
Insp Si Paul said: "All those sentenced can expect to be disqualified from driving for at least a year. Some for much longer.
"The only safe option is not to drink and drive at all."
