A man has been jailed after he repeatedly sexually assaulted someone while they slept.

Guy Watson, 33, from Penarth, was found guilty of seven offences in June and was sentenced to eight years at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday.

He was initially arrested regarding a separate matter on Christmas Day 2022, which led to the discovery of mobile phone videos showing him sexually assaulting a man in his flat.

In the footage his victim can be seen and heard to be in a deep sleep.

When the person he had abused was subsequently traced, officers also found similar videos on their mobile device.

Watson denied the offences but was found guilty of five sexual assaults and twice of causing a male to engage in sexual activity without consent.

Detective Constable Christopher Day, from South Wales Police, said: "This incident has had a profound effect on the victim's mental health, his employment and his relationships.

"In April 2022 he and Watson were socialising in Watson's flat in Stanwell Road, Penarth, where they were drinking and listening to music.

"The victim cannot recall anything further from this point and only knew of being sexually assaulted when videos were found on his phone approximately a month later.

"We hope today's sentencing gives the victim some comfort as he continues to rebuild his life and put this trauma behind him."

Watson was also made subject of a 10-year restraining order not to contact the victim and requirement to sign the sex offenders' register indefinitely.
