Children will be able to swim at leisure centre pools and receive a meal for 10p.

The scheme will run at leisure centres in Barrow and Dalton in Cumbria during the October and February half-terms holidays.

Westmorland and Furness Council said it had allocated £29,608 to cover costs after it received "extremely positive" feedback from previous roll outs of the initiative.

A council report said the project had increased "physical activity and healthy eating".

It added: “The feedback has been extremely positive with full uptake on places offered.

“People who would not normally access leisure centres have taken advantage of the offer.

"It can be demonstrated there has been an increase in social connections, physical activity and healthy eating.”

After a swim children will receive either a hot meal or packed lunch, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
