A cow has been rescued after getting stuck in mud in Kent.

Nettie the cow was walking in the High Halden field, near Ashford, when she got bogged down in mud on Friday.

Its owner, farmer Martyn Dean, said the rescue operation took nearly three and a half hours.

Kent Fire & Rescue Service said: "Our animal rescue crews weren't cowed by the challenge and we pulled Nettie safely out with slings."

The fire service said Nettie was helped back onto solid ground and was safe and well.

"Nettie was checked by the vet and is now safely back in her barn enjoying some well-earned hay with her calf," a spokesperson said.

Mr Dean said: "Kent Fire & Rescue were excellent, saving us and Nettie a whole heap of bother.

"Just another legendiary rescue from KFRS' animal rescue crew."
