Two people charged with the murders of an elderly couple on Merseyside have appeared in court.

Eric Greener, 77, and Sheila Jackson, 83, died after a fire at their home in South John Street, St Helens, on 15 July.

Kevin Weetman, 34, of Croxteth Drive, in Aigburth, and Kylie Maynard, 37, of Rydal Street, in Everton, appeared before Liverpool Magistrates Court accused of the couple's murders.

They are also accused of conspiracy to murder George Barry Jackson, arson and conspiracy to supply Class A drug cocaine. They have been remanded to appear again at Liverpool Crown Court.

A third person, 46-year-old Lee Owens of no fixed address, was charged with murder and arson at the end of July. He is due to stand trial in January.

Seven other people have also been arrested as part of the investigation and police said they still want to hear from anyone who may hold information about the deaths.
