A 26-year-old accused of a man’s murder outside Reading train station has appeared in court.

John Donovan, 60, from west Berkshire, was injured at about 20:45 BST on 20 July and died in hospital on 11 August.

Ryan Basden, of no fixed address, appeared at Reading Crown Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing on 12 September.

A 39-year-old man from Slough and a 20-year-old woman from Reading arrested in connection with the incident remain on bail until 13 October.

In a tribute released through Thames Valley Police on Tuesday, Mr Donovan's family said they had been left "devastated" by his death.

"If any of us ever needed anything, John would always be there to help with a smile and offers of support," they said.

"John had a huge circle of friends due to his varied interests, notwithstanding all his friends from his childhood and school days in Reading."
