Kristine Sparane was found dead at her home in Winsover Road, Spalding, last year

A man who killed a Spalding mother in her own home will not be sentenced until 2026 after he was moved to a secure hospital for a psychiatric assessment.
Kristine Sparane, 37, was found by police lying on a bed and covered in blood at her flat in Winsover Road, Spalding, on 26 November 2024.
Brian Simpson, 64, of Nene Court, Spalding, was initially charged with murder but a trial of facts was held in May after he was deemed unfit to face a criminal trial due to his mental health.
Simpson will have to be assessed by two psychiatrists before a judge decides if he will be detained in a secure mental hospital for an indefinite period, Lincoln Crown Court was told earlier.
Simpson's sentencing has previously been delayed so he could be moved from prison to a suitable secure hospital for a psychiatric assessment.
Andrew Vout KC, defending, told the hearing that the first psychiatrist report on Simpson would take up to 12 weeks.
Judge Simon Hirst adjourned the case for a further hearing at Lincoln Crown Court on 30 January next year.
The trial of facts in May was held to determine whether Mr Simpson killed Ms Sparane but could not result in a conviction.
After hearing she had suffered multiple blunt-force blows which caused skull fractures, the jury decided Mr Simpson was responsible for her death.
