A residential park between two Wiltshire towns could expand onto a former RAF runway.

Lillybrook Estate, which provides “luxury park home living for the over 50s”, wants to add an extra 14 mobile homes, and said the proposal is "modest" and an “efficient use of the land”.

The land for the proposed development, between Chippenham and Swindon, was previously underdeveloped because it had provided the flight path and associated landing lights for an RAF Lyneham runway, near the village of Bradenstoke.

Wiltshire Council is expected to make a decision by 25 September.

Since the closure of the runway, the Ministry of Defence has removed the restrictive covenants and associated development restrictions, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Lillybrook Estate said it would also like to add a new gazebo area for “summer barbeques”, “outdoor parties” and other celebrations.

A consultation is open to the public until the end of August.
