The force said Mr Foster's relatives had been told and were being supported by specialist officers.

Det Ch Insp Steve McGrath said the force was keen for anyone who saw anything suspicious to get in touch.

“I ask those who live in the area to please check your CCTV or doorbell footage to see if it has captured anything which could assist our inquiries," he said.

“Muirhead Avenue is a busy main road, so if you were driving past at around the time of the incident, please review your dashcam footage and let us know if you see anything."

Extra officers have been deployed to the area to carry out inquiries and speak to residents.
