Nearly 150 offences spotted in A1 police operation

The latest round of a long-running police operation has uncovered 145 motoring offences on the A1.

Lincolnshire Police said it spotted the offences over five days last week as part of Operation Tramline.

Officers used an unmarked lorry, loaned to the force by National Highways, to identify unsafe drivers.

The most serious offence saw a 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after he tested positive for cannabis and cocaine.

The lorry allows officers to see into vehicles to watch drivers and record video footage of any offences.

Police said 25 people were stopped for not wearing seatbelts, 20 for using mobile phones and 17 because of the vehicles' condition.

Others were stopped for having insecure loads, not being in proper control of their vehicles, driving without due care, and not having insurance.

Insp Jason Baxter said: "Sadly, even after 10 years of Operation Tramline, we are still detecting numerous offences of poor driving behaviours which the vast majority of our road-using community also find completely unacceptable."
