A man injured in a suspected shooting at his home was not believed to have been the intended target, police have said.

After being called to Ainthorpe Walk in Newton Heath at about 21:55 BST on Tuesday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) found the man with minor head injuries.

Police were later told about another shooting, on nearby Ballantine Street, but no-one was believed to have been injured.

The two incidents are believed to be linked, and the force said it was working "at pace" to establish what happened.

No arrests have yet been made.

Det Insp Terina Arthern said: "We are supporting the injured man, who we do not believe to be the target of the attack.

"This dangerous and disgraceful act could have easily resulted in much more serious injury or worse to an innocent member of the public."

She said officers were doing additional patrols in the area and appealed for anyone with relevant information or footage to come forward.
