A 40-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed.

Police have arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm on Aberfan Road, Aberfan, on Saturday afternoon.

The injured man was taken to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil with "serious" stab wounds but police said his condition was not believed to be life threatening.

South Wales Police said the suspect, who is known to the injured man, was arrested shortly after the incident.
