The Civic Offices car park is no longer needed for council staff as the building has been put up for sale

More than 40 new weekday parking spaces could become available in Cleethorpes.

North East Lincolnshire Council is planning to remove restrictions on the Civic Offices car park now that council staff have moved out of the building, which is up for sale.

Until now, only people with a permit, mostly council staff, have been able to use the car park on weekdays, although it has been available to the public at weekends.

The change to make it a pay-and-display car park seven days a week is expected to be approved at a meeting next week, but would then be subject to a consultation.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), a council document ahead of next Monday’s meeting explains the permit restrictions are no longer needed because council staff have already been relocated to New Oxford House in Grimsby.

“There is an opportunity to relieve car parking pressures in the resort,” the document states.

The existing weekend and bank holiday rates for the car park, including £1 for up to one hour and £2.50 for one to two hours, would be applied across the week.

The council document states: “Managing the Civic Offices car park as a council-owned public car park during weekdays will reduce the risk of attracting ASB [anti-social behaviour] activities, and it will generate income which will offset the cost of enabling works.”

Use of the car park is expected to raise between £25,000 and £30,000 in revenue, dependent on usage, the LDRS adds.
