The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for strong winds due to Storm Bert across the East of England.

The warning covers the whole region - from the Norfolk coast to west Northamptonshire - between 08:00 GMT and 21:00.

It said some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

Short term loss of power could also occur and there could be disruption to bus and train services.

The warning is in force in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Peterborough and Suffolk.

The Met Office said: "South to southwesterly winds will be strong and gusty throughout Sunday, easing from the west through the afternoon and early evening as a band of heavy rain associated with a weather front clears eastwards."

Gusts of 45-55 mph are expected and in higher ground, or south facing coasts, they could reach between 60-65 mph.

It advised people to check their road conditions if travelling and amend any travel plans if needed.

"If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves.

"Even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea," it added.
