A 1,500-capacity entertainment venue in Liverpool is expected to create 150 new jobs in the area.

Boxpark, in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle, features a 21,000 sq ft (1951 sq m) dining and events space and a 5,500 sq ft (511 sq m) terrace.

The venue, in the historic Canning Hall at Cains Brewery Village, is the first Boxpark to open outside London.

Boxpark boss Simon Champion said it was "a special moment" for the company, which launched its shipping container venues in London in 2011.

Steve Rotheram said the Baltic Triangle was "a great urban regeneration success story"

"We’re transforming Canning Hall and bringing job opportunities into the area, which we’re incredibly excited about," he said.

Boxpark said the company had agreed a 15-year lease with Cains Brewery Village and is investing over £5m into the Baltic Triangle.

Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram said: "The Baltic Triangle is one of area’s great urban regeneration success stories and is now a hub of vibrant and creative venues."

Councillor Robert McAllister-Bell, the Liberal Democrat mayoral candidate, said the Boxpark Development brought investment "yet the transport infrastructure still falls short".

"For true sustainable growth we have to ensure we establish solid transport links both locally but also nationally for visitors to our wonderful region," he added.
