A teenager has been arrested after a police community support officer was punched in the head in Liverpool city centre.
The officer was attacked after being approached from behind by a group at the Liverpool One shopping precinct at about 18:30 BST on Wednesday.
He was punched, leaving him needing hospital treatment for concussion, soreness and dizziness, Merseyside Police said.
The officer’s colleague chased the offender before making an arrest in Chavasse Park.
'Unacceptable'
A 17-year-old boy from New Ferry has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and taken into custody to be questioned.
The injured officer has since been recovering at home.
Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said: “Every single day, our police community support officers provide a vital link between local communities and regular police officers.
“For one to be assaulted during the course of those duties is completely abhorrent and totally unacceptable.”
