The family of a Kent teenager with autism, who died after struggling with his mental health, is hosting a fundraising event to mark what would have been his 18th birthday.

Stefan Kluibenschadl, from Margate, will be remembered with a fundraising event at the Cliftonville Cultural Space on Sunday to boost support for vulnerable young people.

Emma Kluibenschadl, Stefan's mum, said: "I don't think, unfortunately, Stefan's death is going to be the last death for a long time, which is horrific."

Coroner Catherine Wood said Stefan had died as a consequence of his own actions but she could not be sure of his intention.

The event, called the STAK Life Art Exhibition and Sale, will feature live music, artwork and poems.

On the event's booking page it said: "Eighteen candles would have flickered on [Stefan's] cake this very weekend. Instead, we light them in our hearts, promising to carry his light forward."

Stefan, who was 15 when he died, was struggling with his mental health and had been bullied for being autistic.

Ms Kluibenschadl said: "I wouldn't want any parent to go through this horrific pain."

However, she noted there had been a "shift" with regards to education and training on autism and mental health.

Ms Kluibenschadl said she hoped the event would bring people together and help bring about change as part of Stefan's legacy.
